Started a kitchen remodel project in September 2020 and has not completed the job but has asked for full payment more than once. (It’s now September 2022.) Underlayment was done poorly so the vinyl plank is uneven in places. Flooring install people can’t fix it. Consistently has had problems communicating. Would tell us a timeline and then have excuse after excuse about why things didn’t get done. People would show up without notice and be just as confused as to why we weren’t informed. We were told that there would be a final walkthrough to make sure everything was up to Heather’s “standard” and that has yet to occur. We have several things that we are waiting to be completed that we were told over 18 months ago that they would be finished in “2 weeks” and we are still waiting. We thought Heather was legit when we recommended her to our family members for derecho repairs, and some have been ghosted after paying in full with visible damage still in their home. We have had children born and family members get sick and die since this work was started. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS WOMAN. WHATEVER HER PRICE IS, I PROMISE YOU IT IS NOT WORTH IT. ZERO STARS.

DO NOT USE! Unless you enjoy a 4 week timeline to stretch to 16 weeks. Or feel free to use this company if you want to hear many and varied excuses why work can't be completed within the estimated time frame. But really, please check in with the city to make sure that she filed all permits, because we didn't think to check that before we paid her in full and since she filed zero permits, we now get to do that for her. CONTRACT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

This woman, Heather Hammer, proprietor, does not do any designing. She could not show me what new windows would look like in our home, but the quote said equivalent to Pella. Well, that was one of many lies this woman made. She put in the cheapest windows you could buy without showing us what they’d look like, and there are several broken and damaged windows, as well as trim left undone. We asked her for the final bill. She obliged, we paid. Ironically the next day, she produced another bill for over $5,000. She’s as crooked as they come. We didn’t get the window trim finished, they scuffed up the paint in many areas, they didn’t install the storm door, nor did they finish the main door, the carpentry work was never completed , even though it was paid for. I could go on. Everything was an excuse for her. The job was supposed to be done long ago, but they had every excuse in the book. Weather, scheduling, inability to get parts, etc. in the end, she ghosted us and we got screwed out of $20,000 worth of subpar windows (at least) and $7,000 of unfinished work. Avoid!

What Definitive Home Design is registered to do

The State classifies Definitive Home Design as residential remodelers. That classification comes from the registration itself, not from us — it describes the work the business registered to perform, and it is not an assessment of skill or a limit on what they may quote for.
