Plain answers

Four questions, answered straight.

Is every Iowa contractor really listed here?

Yes — all 17,803 construction contractors currently registered with the State of Iowa are listed, across all 99 counties. The directory is generated from the State's own public registry (Iowa Code ch. 91C) and refreshed weekly. Nobody can pay to be added to the directory or removed from it — the list is always complete.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Completely free for homeowners, with no account and no forms. Search, open a contractor’s profile, and call them directly — your phone number is never captured or sold.

What does "registered" mean — is it a license?

Registration with the State of Iowa confirms a contractor is compliant with unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation law. It is not a license: the State does not test skills, verify experience, or check references. Always get references and proof of insurance before hiring.

How do bids work?

Describe your project once and it is shown to registered contractors in the matching trade and area. Interested contractors respond with a price and start date to your email. Bidders never see your name, email, or phone number — you choose who gets to contact you.
